Halloween Yoto Cards for Older Kids or Tweens (8+)
R.L. Stine, author of Goosebumps, has written another great spooky novel for tweens. Amy is annoyed by her brother's mean pranks, so she decides to get a little revenge. Amy and her friend find a recipe for blue slime and decide to embarrass him by publically pouring it over him, but things don't go according to plan.
This also isn't Halloween-specific, but if you're looking for a book for older kids, this book by Roald Dahl is definitely on the spooky side. It's about witches, who look like ordinary people and have ordinary jobs but want to make every child disappear.
Bunnicula: A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery
Meet Bunnicula - a vampire bunny. Harold and Chester (a dog and a cat) are suspicious about the new pet in their household. Especially when they see the bunny has fangs. This is great for kids between 8 and 12 years old.
Russell Crannaker, a shy child, buys a mysterious ring that lets him turn into a monster. But when he doesn't follow the directions, things go awry. This is a funny story for older kids, and the narration sounds like a production with different character voices!
Another book for older kids, this one is about a girl with a new substitute teacher who turns out to be an alien! She gets help from the smartest kid in class, and together they try to get rid of their new teacher.
This is a spooky tale about a girl named Coraline who steps through a door to find a new house with another mother and father there who don't want to let her go. It's definitely for older kids.
MYO Yoto Card Ideas - Halloween Songs
Music is so fun for Halloween and doesn't have to be spooky. Check out these options:
- Preschool Halloween Songs - This album includes "Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate" and more.
- Blippi's Halloween - This is a great Halloween album for any Blippi fans.
- Witches Fly - This is only one song, but it's free, so adding to a mix of songs on an MYO card is great.
- Don't Be Scared of Halloween Song - Another solo song, but this one is also free!
- Mickey's Spooky Night - This has some Halloween songs.
- The Skeleton Shake - This is a fun movement song by Danny Go.
- The Creepy Crawl - Here's another fun song by Danny Go.
- Halloween Kids Party - This is a long album (41 songs) and it includes the Addam's Family theme song. Good bang for your buck, although you'll probably want to remove the sound effects and just use the songs on your MYO Halloween card.

Super Fun Stories for Halloween - collection, 2 hr total - This is a kid-friendly collection of Halloween stories. You can also get this one by the same narrator, complete with sound effects.
The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything - 6 minutes - This story is about a little old lady who is unafraid of the pumpkin head that is chasing her! It's a fun book for young readers and the illustrations are nice, so this would be great as a read-along.
Birdie's Happiest Halloween - 6 minutes - Birdie loves coming up with fun Halloween costumes, like a mummy-princess or robot. But this year, she can't think of a good costume idea, so she goes to the museum to get inspired.
Gustavo, the Shy Ghost - 7 minutes - Gustavo is a ghost, so he can walk through walls, glow in the dark, and even play the violin. But he can't make friends with other monsters because they can't see him. But when the Day of the Dead comes, will they be able to finally see him? The artwork is beautiful so this one is definitely good as a read-along.
Pink or Treat! Pinkalicious - 8 minutes - If your kids enjoy Pinkalicious, then this would be the perfect Halloween story for them. The mayor has canceled Halloween! But Pinkalicious already has a costume, so what is she supposed to do if there's no trick-or-treating, candy, or parties? So Pinkalicious sets out to save Halloween.
The Bad Seed Presents: The Good, the Bad, and the Spooky - 8 minutes
If you've liked the other books by this author, you'll enjoy this Halloween story. The Bad Seed loves Halloween, but he can't find a costume. Your kids will enjoy following along as the Bad Seed tries to find a costume in time for trick-or-treating.
