Are you celebrating Pi Day this year? "Pi" as in 3.14159... yup, that kind of pi is the perfect excuse for math-themed dessert party. Use these free printable party invitations to invite people over for some pie eating!
When your husband is a math-guy, you learn to appreciate these geeky things. 🙂 Plus, how hard is it to get on board with a holiday solely based around eating dessert? It's totally my kind of holiday!
Throw a Pi-Day Pie Party
We celebrate Pi Day every year by having a few families over for dessert. Everyone brings a pie, and it doesn't matter if it's homemade, frozen, or store-bought.
That usually gives us ratio of one pie per family, which is pretty close to ideal in my mind.
Want to throw your own pi-day party? Use these free printable Pi-Day Invitations!
I'm supplying you with a free download for Pi Day invitations. They are simple, perfectly geeky, and can be printed at home.
There are two versions, depending on how you want to fold/cut the invitation. Both versions have space for you to write in the place/time and RSVP instructions.

One invitation to a page (print one per page and fold in half twice, the way you did in elementary school. Best for regular paper. Remember to print "actual size")
Two invitations per page (for a printing double-sided on a single fold-card. Print the two pages of this pdf back to back on cardstock. Remember to print "actual size," then cut across the middle of the page to end up with two cards per sheet. )
These work fabulously for last minute parties. No one has to know you only decided today to throw a party!

Our Favorite Pies
I've made a lot of different pies over the years, with varying levels of homemade crust and fillings. I'm not a purist, so if a store-bought crust is right for you, go for it!
If you're feeling gung ho, then I like Mels' Kitchen Cafe Pie Crust tutorial. (or Pioneer Woman's Pie picture tutorial)
These are some of our favorite pie from over the years:
- Chocolate Pecan Pie
- Magnolia Lemon Pie
- Caramel Apple Sundae Tart
- Fresh Peach Pie (which is impossible in March but bookmark it for later!)
- Banoffee Pie
Also, this pie tin is hilarious and perfect for the math lover.
Pi-Themed Math Decor
I'll be honest - we usually have a no-fuss approach to Pi Day. I supply some vanilla ice cream, paper plates, and water, and then my guests bring the refreshments - it's basically the easiest party ever.
Of course, if you want to get fancier, there is plenty of cute math-themed stuff out there!
These colorful Pi Balloons would be easy to blow up and toss around, no helium needed.
These classroom packs of Pi Tattoos make me laugh - this one and this one.
We do usually wear geeky shirts, since my husband already has them.
- Love Is Like Pi - Real, Irrational, and Never Ending
- My password is the last eight digits of pi
- Can't stop, won't stop.
- Come to the math side, we have pi

Oh, goodness. We love Pi Day at our house. We make Pi-Day shirts and celebrate with the kids' classes at school and eat pi at home. I've got lots of Pi-Day ideas on my blog from the last couple years.
