When I was little, this was my favorite joke:
What has four wheels and flies?

    Answer:

A garbage truck! And you know what hangs out near the garbage truck...

    The flies!

Well this truck doesn't actually have any wheels, and it only has one fly, but you get the point. My parents tell me I told EVERYONE that joke when I was 5!

So, here are your pictures of the cutest fly you ever saw, and a very functional garbage truck.

I got up a bit early to take a picture of Dash with the garbage truck, thinking I would have to wake up my son. At 6:15, and guess who was already waiting by the window? Yup. This child has a third sense about what day the garbage man comes!

And I could resist making this fun animation. It loops forever because Dash is forever dumping things into his garbage truck like this. 🙂

It was a fantastic Halloween this year. What is your favorite picture?

UPDATE: I've had some people ask about the mini garbage cans my kids are playing with in these pictures. They are actually supposed to be pencil cans, but they worked perfectly for this! These are what we ordered: Mini Curbside Trash and Recycle Can Set.

My 8 year old son wants to me a garbage truck for Halloween this year❣ Do you have directions on how you made your son's creative costume?? I am not a crafty mom so this is gonna take all that I've got to try & make this happen! ?

I don't have directions - but I can tell you it's a diaper box that I spray painted green. I folded in the flaps to provide some structure, and added the shoulder ribbons to keep it on. The front of the truck is an amazon box I think.

The back portion of the truck is really simple – it’s actually just a notch halfway down the sides of the box. Then you put the bag on just like you would your kitchen trash, and it goes over the lip of the box and slides into the notch on each side. I did have to tie a knot in the bag to skinny it up and make it taut around the circumference.

I wish I would have added wheels but I forgot!

My little wants to be a garbage truck this year 🙂 This has to be the best, and one of the most simple versions to make. How did you make the back trash portion of the truck? Did you use a trashcan lined with a bag? I've been saving various box sizes to try to create something like this. Any other tips would be helpful too!

The fly is an excellent addition to the theme. We are turning our baby boy into a trashbag since he will just be sitting in a stroller.

      Thanks!

I love the baby costume idea! So cute.

The fly costume started with a long sleeve shirt we already owned and black wings from our costume bin. The skirt is a simple handmade one - a double layer of tulle with an elastic waistband.

The trickiest part was making the eyeballs: I cut two ovals of fabric (I used a thrifted wool sweater that I purposed shrank in the wash), one slightly smaller than the other. Sew them together like a pillow, leaving a small opening, stuff them, and then finish going around. I think I hot glued them to a piece of stretchy lace for the headband. Good luck!

You’ve inspired me to create a garbage truck costume for my garbage loving toddler. How did you attach the straps?? Thank you!
