Letter subscriptions are a great way to encourage reading, and continue the excitement over receiving actual physical letters in the mail. This post is all about The Max Letters, which is an adventure story told over 24 letters. We've also got an exclusive promo code for The Max Letters if you read through until the end!
What are The Max Letters?
The Max Letters are a story experience that comes through illustrated letters mailed to your home. A subscription to The Max Letters will give your child a year-long adventure.
If your kids love fantasy or adventure stories, they'll love these letters.
We got the first one in the mail and read it aloud to my 9-year-old and 7-year-old. They were both enthralled with the story!
If your kids like fantasy, quests, or adventures, then this is a great letter subscription for them.
What are the letters about?
Through the letters, you'll meet Prince Max and follow him through magical kingdoms. His father, the king, has sent his three sons on a quest. Whichever son finds the greatest treasure in the land will become crown prince.
Read along as Max meets new friends and is faced with challenges, evil villains, and talking beasts. The letters have hand-drawn illustrations that bring each chapter to life.
The creator of The Max letters is a published author! The content of these letters are actually chapters taken from his book, The Witch's Tower in The Max Series.
However, getting the story delivered is very different from just buying the book. The paper letters include beautiful art and all the excitement unfolds over time.
What do you get each month?
A subscription gets you 2 chapter letters each month for a year, and each letter has an overarching plot with magic, fantastical creatures, and characters you'll love.
Each letter is 2-3 pages long, front and back. They are delivered in the second and fourth week of each month. (You can delay your first letter due to a special occasion like a birthday!)
Along with each letter, you'll get a small note written to your young reader.
One of the things we liked about The Max Letters is that you also get access to a PDF of conversation prompts. These correspond with each chapter so you can discuss them with your kids and explore deeper themes together.
The 24 letters touch on themes of friendship, courage, and love. The conversation prompts helped my kids understand more about the story; talking about the plot and characters has always been an effective learning technique!
What age-range is best?
It depends on the child, but the creators of The Max Letters recommend them for ages 8-14.
I read them to a 7-year old, and he wasn't nearly as interested in them as my 9-year-old. I think it depends on how much experience they have with fantasy, as my 9-year-old is well versed in the concepts of epic fantasy, adventures, quests, etc.
They are family-friendly, so you could even read them as a family.
If you have more than one child and want the letters addressed to all of your kids, just enter all of their names in when you're checking out.
For example, in the "Letter Recipient Name" field, you can write "Kate, Jane, and Jack" in the first name section and then your family's last name. Or you can put "The Smith" under first name and "Family" under last name to address it to the The Smith Family.
How much does a subscription cost?
When you subscribe, you have two payment options: you can pay on a monthly basis or all at once.
If you're paying monthly, it's $12.99 a month. If you're making a one-time payment, it's $129, which will save you about $26. But keep reading for a coupon code!
The Max Letters Promo Code
We liked this subscription so much we asked for a Max Letters coupon code to give our subscribers!
Use "SNAPHAPPY" to get $5 off a subscription (this will apply toward either the monthly or annual).
This company is new and does not offer sales or other coupons, so combining my Max Letters promo code with their yearly subscription is the cheapest way to get a beautiful, interesting story delivered to your door.
Note: this post is not sponsored, but I received the letter shown as a free sample when I asked for it. I do not currently receive compensation if you use my promo code.
The Max Letters is included on our list of Letter Subscriptions for Kids. Check it out for other options for different ages and interests!
