Want a never-ending supply of FREE Yoto Content? Make a Yoto Podcast Card! You choose the podcast, load it on a card, and you have a nearly limitless amount of content. Almost all podcasts are free.

And even if you're worried, it's actually pretty easy to put a podcast on a Yoto MYO card. We've made it SUPER easy by gathering a list of podcast links you may be interested in. Read on for step-by-step directions on how to make a Yoto Podcast Card.

How to Put a Podcast FROM the Yoto App on a Card

    • The Week Junior Show
    • What If World
    • Who Smarted?
    • Worth Noting: Kids Podcast About News
    • Unspookable

If you want to make a card with one of those podcasts, then this is one click easy!

Simply go to your library on the Yoto app, swipe over to the "Podcasts" section, and tap on the one you'd like.

Then just drop a MYO card to your Yoto player, and then look on the app in the corner for the three dots. Select "Link to a Card" and wait a second for the green checkmark to show up - and that's it!

How to put ANY podcast on Yoto MYO Card

Here's the thing: there is a whole wide world of podcasts out there - about all kinds of subjects and topics!

So don't limit yourself to just the podcasts that have already partnered with Yoto - there are tons more good ones they just haven't found yet! You can put ANY podcast on card (well, any free podcast, anyway).

You need one basic piece of information to put a podcast on a MYO card: a link called an RSS link or RSS feed. It looks like a url or website link, and probably has "rss" or "feed" in it. You usually get this link from the podcast's website.

Then you just load that link into a special place in the Yoto App, and link it to a card.

Here are step-by-step directions on how to put a podcast on a MYO card.

    1. Locate the RSS Feed link

Finding the RSS link is the only tricky part of the whole process. Some podcasts make it easy, but some podcasts don't realize people want it.

Basically, start by googling "podcast name + RSS link" and see what you find.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to back out of podcast apps to get the RSS link. Even if you already subscribe to it somewhere, you'll need to go looking for it on the web.

BUT LISTEN UP... We've done the hard stuff for you already!

Basically, we've gathered a bunch of popular podcast links on this post, which means you don't have to waste time looking for them. There are more than 40 links, all ready to copy and paste into the app. Scroll or jump to a section below, but then come back for the rest of the directions.

    RSS Feed Links By Category
    • Popular & Licensed Character Podcasts
    • Non-Fiction & Learning Podcasts
    • Original Stories Podcasts for Yoto Cards
    • Bedtime & Mindfulness Podcasts for Yoto Cards
    • Art & Activity Podcasts
    • Biblical & Christian Podcasts
    • Conclusion

Note: You DO NOT have to go to these links! It will lead you to a techy looking page you don't ever have to see - it's just code for how to display a podcast. Just select the text, right-click on the black bar and hit "copy." Or on a phone, hold down on the black bar and tap copy on the pop up.

---> If your podcast isn't on this list...

Just comment on this post and we'll help you find it! And we'll add it to the list for others too. 🙂

---> If your podcast isn't on this list, and you can only listen on Spotify...

Then too bad. Basically, Spotify has some exclusive podcast content that is available for paid subscribers only. So you can't put them on a MYO card. Their RSS links are hidden behind paywall. Sorry! #BlameThemNotMe

Same goes for any other paid podcast. Basically, you can put any FREE podcast on a Yoto Podcasts Card, but the handful of paid ones are not available.

    2. Then paste your RSS link into the Yoto app

Open up the app, and navigate to the Podcast section/tab. You can do that by tapping the down arrow in the top corner and tapping the blue podcast button. Or, you can swipe left a few times to move you to the Podcast Tab, same thing.

**This is probably the biggest mistake I see people make - they think they need to be on the MYO section of the app, but they need to be in the PODCAST SECTION.

You're looking for a blue box with a plus sign that says "Add a podcast" underneath. It might be right at the top, or it might be under Featured or at the end of the page.

Tap the "Add a podcast" button.

Paste your RSS feed link by holding down on that field, and then hitting paste. (Assuming you just copied it - otherwise go find it again.)

Select "Get podcast details" and then Save.

    3. Lastly, link it to a card

Following the steps above makes a square podcast image show up in the podcast tab.

This part is easy! Simply tap your the podcast image you just made in the app, choose the three dots in the corner, and select Link To Card. Drop a MYO card in your Yoto, wait for the green check, and you're done!

RSS Feed Links for Yoto Podcast Cards

We've gathered a ton of RSS links below for popular podcasts for kids.

TO USE THESE RSS CODES: Just highlight the code in the black bar and copy it. You're then ready to paste it into your Yoto App!

There are detailed directions available if you scroll up, but as a quick review: copy a link in a black bar by selecting it and right clicking (or press and hold on a phone), then head to the Yoto App. Navigate to the Podcast area, Choose Add a Podcast, and paste your link into the feed. Then link it to a card!

After you're done, you'll want to check out this post for ideas how to label your MYO cards.

    YOTO PODCAST FAQ

Do I need to buy the official podcast cards from Yoto?

    No, you don't have to.

Yoto sells some five branded podcast cards: Story Shed, Story Quest, Kidico, The Week Junior, and KidNuz.

It used to be much harder to make a Yoto podcast card, so these preloaded cards were a great shortcut.

However, now you can just make the same thing on an MYO card, with just the RSS link. So you do not need to purchase the official card as long as you have some MYO cards available.

Can I listen to a podcast without making a podcast card?

    Yes!

You don't technically have to have to put a podcast on a Yoto MYO card to listen. Just select the podcast you want to listen to and toggle it to stream through your Yoto player instead of on your phone.

You can just play/stream the podcast through the app, and select your Yoto Player as the speaker. This removes some of the autonomy of your kids have their own cards to play at will, but is a great option if you don't listen regularly or just want to see which podcast they like before making a card.

You can listen to podcasts through the app with no card, but it does require Wi-Fi to download new episodes. You can play old podcast episodes without Wi-Fi.

You will need the internet to download new episodes as they update. So keep in mind that podcasts will always need Wi-Fi the first time.

What's the advantage of having a Yoto podcast card instead if using the app?

One benefit to using a card rather than an app is that your child can control it independently and doesn’t need you to do it with your phone. You also don't need to use your phone battery or need Wi-Fi.

Some families make a single designated card to use for linking podcasts. The card could just say "podcast" or you could print the images of all the podcasts available for them to choose from. Since it only takes a few seconds to link the card to a podcast, you can just relink it as necessary whenever they want to try a new podcast.

    What is Yoto Daily?

Yoto Daily is a podcast that's already linked to you Yoto Player itself! It's a great way to introduce your kids to the concept of a podcast: how it is episodic, offers new content often, can be themed, etc.

The Yoto Daily podcast can be assigned to the Right orange button. So you can just click that button and listen. Have a look in the app under players > settings. There are a few options for the button pushes, but the only podcast you can link is Yoto Daily.

You don't HAVE to keep Yoto Daily on the shortcut button - you can add it to a card if you want!

What podcasts are available in the Yoto app?

There are tons of great ones! As of this posting, these podcasts are already loaded into the Yoto app:

    • Yoto Daily
    • Mini Journal Yoto
    • Activity Quest
    • A Kids Book About: The Podcast
    • The Imagine Neighborhood
    • Sleep Tight Stories - Bedtime
    • Emotion Motion
    • Everyday Feels: Podcast about Emotions
    • Everything Under The Sun
    • Flyest Fables

    • Storytime Anytime
    • The Week Junior Show
    • What If World
    • Who Smarted?
    • Worth Noting: Kids Podcast About News
    • Unspookable

Go to the app for the most updated list.

Another Way to Put A Podcast on an MYO Card: Downloading Episode MP3s

So the way we've described above lets you make a card that is linked to a podcast - so when more episodes go live, they'll show up on your card as well (assuming the Yoto is connected to the internet.)

Technically, there's another way to make a Yoto Podcast card. You can just download certain episodes you want, and then use the MP3 files on an MYO card. I find the easiest way to do this is to go to ListenNotes.com, search for the podcast. Use the three dots button (bottom right) on each episode to find the "Download Audio" option.

It's more work than simply linking a podcast feed to a card, but we wanted to mention it as a viable option. It also will not update itself the way a true Yoto Podcast card would. You'll just have to download each individual episode directly, then upload the to a playlist.

This gives you the flexibility to combine many episodes on a single card, even if they are from different podcasts. (A true Yoto podcast card is one podcast link per card.) This might be a great option for your child, especially if you want to preview episodes before you hand them over.

Since you're not making a Yoto podcast card, you just make a regular MYO card, following these directions with the episode files you downloaded.

    Conclusion

Putting podcasts on Yoto cards is a fun way for kids to keep up with their favorite shows. Whether your kids like science, reading, art, or history, you can easily find a podcast they'll love.

Emily Arrow's Story Bike is an Audible Original, meaning you need to have a paid membership to Audible to use it. Any premium podcasts like that hide their RSS feeds, since you're only meant to be able to listen to them on Audible itself. Sorry!

It's only one podcast feed per card, but it will load about 20 episodes of that podcast!

The exception to this is if you download individual episodes, because then you'll have mp3 files. Technically that would no longer be a podcast card, since it would not automatically update at all. But that would be a way to put more than one podcast on a single card.

Is it possible once I've put a podcast on a MYO card to play the card without being connected to the internet? No matter what I try, the podcast will not download to the yoto like MYO cards with other content (like audio I've recorded of reading my kids their favorite books).

      Reply
      • Meg says

        July 24, 2023 at 9:08 pm

Nope, it's not possible. That's not how podcast cards work. Since you're using an RSS link to access the episodes, it will always require internet to play that card. (Opposed to regular MYO cards, where the content is stored on Yoto servers.)

If you really want to listen to podcasts episodes without internet, follow the directions at the end of this post under the Heading "Another Way to Put A Podcast on an MYO Card." It's more work, but you can download as many episodes as you'd like, make a playlist, and make a regular MYO card. It won't ever update though, because it's not a true podcast card.

That's the tradeoff - listening without wifi or updating itself.

I clicked through to their podcast website (https://hijinksensue.com/series/potter-and-daughter/), where each of the episodes can be downloaded as an mp3 file. If I were you, I'd just go there, scroll to the bottom and choose page 7, and then start downloading the files you want to put on a playlist in chronological order. You can have both a playlist and the RSS loaded in your account, and just relink the physical card to a podcast card after she finishes whatever is on your playlist.

My guess is their rss feed has a limit on how many episodes it will load, which is why 1 and 2 don't show up.

You can't control what shows up on a Podcast card.

However, you could switch from a Podcast to an actual MYO card, and download just the episodes you want, and then put them on a MYO playlist. There's directions at the bottom of the post for using ListenNotes for this.

That's exactly how podcast cards and RSS feeds work! no content is stored on the card or player - the RSS link directs you to the most recent podcast episodes and streams them.

The only way to listen to a podcast offline is to download individual episodes and load them on a playlist (ListenNotes is a great resource, and is explained at the end of the blog post). This effectively makes it a "regular" MYO card and not an official "podcast" card since it no longer uses the RSS feed to update with new episodes. Basically - you can't have both. You can have a podcast card that will keep linking to new episodes OR you can listen to podcast episodes offline, but not both.
